Former Union Minister, ex-MP, and senior political leader Kunwar Revati Raman Singh has expressed deep concern over the current political environment in the country, warning that India is “gradually slipping toward autocratic rule.”
Sharing his observations based on continuous public interactions during his visit to Meja–Karchana and the outcome of the recent Bihar elections, Singh said the nation is passing through an “extremely fragile phase.” If corrective measures are not taken immediately, he cautioned, democratic values may face serious threats.
He alleged that the present government has tightened its control over key constitutional institutions—judiciary, executive, legislature, and media—to secure decisions in its favour. “This growing influence is not a healthy sign for the future of the world’s largest democracy,” Singh said.
Calling the ruling party “relentless in its pursuit of electoral victories,” he accused the BJP of being prepared to go to any extent to dominate every state assembly. “Whether it is identifying opposition voters to remove their names from voter lists, controversies around EVMs, or horse-trading of legislators—such activities pose a grave danger to democracy,” he added.
MP representative Vinay Kushwaha also reacted sharply to the post-election environment in Bihar. He said the public outrage and protests indicate that “the elections were not entirely fair and may have been influenced in one way or another.”
