New Delhi:
A car driven by a masked man forced through one of the boundary gates of the Delhi Assembly premises on Monday afternoon and then managed to flee in a stunning breach of security in the national capital.
However, after a few hours of intense search operation, the masked man has been arrested and the car has been seized.
The man has been identified as Sarabjit Singh and the car was recovered from Roop Nagar, a densely populated residential neighbourhood in North Delhi.
The incident comes close on the heels of bomb threats received by the Assembly during the recently concluded budget session.
The car, carrying a UP registration number, entered the Assembly premises breaking through Gate No 2 at around 2 pm and then managed to escape.
The Tata Sierra, with number UP-26 AZ 8090, broke through the gate at the VIP entrance where CRPF personnel were deployed for security. The driver stopped the vehicle abruptly after breaching the barrier, got out calmly, placed a bouquet near the gate, and then drove away.
