- Late Gyan Rath and Kishore Rath Honoured for Lifetime ContributionBalasore, 9/5 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): A two-day Annual Cartoon Exhibition 2026, organised by the Odisha Cartoon Academy, was inaugurated showcasing cartoons by renowned cartoonists of Odisha along with works of emerging young cartoonists.
- The exhibition, held at Jayadev Bhawan, was formally inaugurated by chief guest Amitabh Thakur, Chairman of the Odisha Transport Authority and Transport Commissioner.
- Distinguished guests included Subu R. and Sharada Prasad Mahapatra, Chairman of the National Human Welfare Board Trust.
- The programme was presided over by Kamalakanta Rath, President of the Odisha Cartoon Academy. On this occasion, late cartoonists Gyan Rath and Kishore Rath were posthumously honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their lifelong dedication to cartoon art.
- Addressing the gathering, chief guest Amitabh Thakur stated that cartoons carrying messages on transport and road safety play a significant role in creating public awareness. He also assured support for nurturing more young cartoonists in the coming days. Distinguished guest Subu R. shared his views on the connection between auditing and cartoons, while Sharada Prasad Mahapatra appreciated the organisation’s efforts in promoting new cartoonists and expressed his commitment to extending direct support.
- From the family of cartoonist Kishore Rath, his wife Rosalini Sadangi and elder son Debadalan Rath received the honour on his behalf.
- Outstanding participants of cartoon competitions organised in various schools across Odisha were felicitated with plaques and certificates. Cartoons by artists including Kishore Rath, Gyan Rath, Sunaram Singh, Keshu Das, Paresh Nath, K.K. Rath, Utkal Gaurav, Ashwini-Abani, Chudamani Das, Debashish Singh, Prashant Majhi, T. Nandeshu, Prashant Mahakur and Bibek Das, along with works of young cartoonists, were displayed at the exhibition.
- Secretary Debashish Singh delivered the introductory address, while artist Kesu Das proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of cartoon lovers, students and parents visited the exhibition and appreciated the display.
