Bhubaneswar: A depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cross the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night of September 23 and early hours of September 24, the weather office said on Monday.
The system, which developed from a well-marked low-pressure area over the westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal, moved west-northwestwards and lay centred at 5.30 pm on Monday over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near latitude 17.7°N and longitude 87.8°E.
It was located about 310 km southeast of Puri, 310 km east-southeast of Gopalpur, 390 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 470 km east of Visakhapatnam.
The depression is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, before crossing the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts as a deep depression between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur.
