
Balasore, Sept 27 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): District Collector Suryabanshi Mayur Vikas inaugurated a modern jute diversified products manufacturing unit at Baliapal, managed by the Baliapal Jute Farmers’ Producers Organization (FPO).
The initiative, supported jointly by ORMAS, Balasore, and the district administration, aims to strengthen rural livelihoods while promoting value-added jute-based products. Through this unit, local groups and artisans will benefit from skill development, income generation, and market access.
The FPO, formed under the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department with the facilitation of ORMAS, focuses on strengthening collective farming, ensuring better market access, and enhancing farmers’ income.
Speaking at the inauguration, Collector Vikas appreciated the efforts of the implementing agencies and encouraged the promotion of jute as a sustainable alternative to plastic.
Officials and PRI members present assured continuous institutional support for capacity building and market linkage.
The event was attended by the Balasore Sub-Collector, Block Development Officer of Baliapal, RMC Secretary, scientists from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, senior officials from ORMAS and Mission Shakti, along with PRI representatives. The initiative is expected to create livelihood opportunities for local artisans and women FPO members while also strengthening environmental sustainability.
