
Baleshwar, Sept 10:(Krushna Kumar Mohanty) A mobile phone snatcher was caught by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) during a special drive at Baleshwar Railway Station on Sunday.
According to RPF sources, the checking was carried out under the Train and Station Property Offence & Passenger Safety (TOPB) Drive to strengthen security and curb criminal activities. Around 12:10 pm, officers noticed a man moving suspiciously at the Kharagpur end of Platform No. 1.
The man was detained and identified as Sk. Sukuruddin (28) of Arad Bazar under Sahadev Khunta police limits in Baleshwar district. On checking, the RPF recovered a Realme Android mobile phone, pink in colour, worth about ₹28,000, from his possession.
During interrogation, Sukuruddin admitted that he had snatched the mobile phone earlier in the day from a passenger in a running train near Baleshwar Yard. He was reportedly loitering at the station in search of another target when the RPF team intercepted him.
The seized phone was taken into custody under the provisions of BNSS-2023 after completing legal formalities. The accused was later handed over to the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), Baleshwar, which has registered a case against him.
The RPF has appealed to passengers to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious activities to ensure safer travel.
