Balasore, Sept 17 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty):
The district administration of Balasore successfully carried out the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ dedicated to Mother and Mother Earth, with more than five lakh trees planted across the district.
The plantation drive, which started at sunrise and continued until sunset, was organized in all blocks and urban areas of the district. This massive initiative was part of the state-wide target of planting 75 lakh trees. The campaign, launched a month ago on the call of the Chief Minister, concluded on September 17.
Under the leadership of the District Collector, administrative officials, PRI members, businessmen, bankers, NGOs, civil society organizations, volunteers, and the general public came together to make this achievement possible.

According to official records, the Panchayati Raj Department registered the highest number with 2,69,610 plantations, followed by the Industries Department with 2,28,699, Agriculture Department with 16,047, and the Forest Department with 4,125. Altogether, 5,20,461 registrations were completed. Among the blocks, Nilgiri (28,840) and Bhogarai (28,210) recorded the highest participation.
Several places in the district hosted selfie points, competitions, and prize distribution programs to encourage participation. After plantation, people were also motivated to register their efforts on the ‘MeriLife’ portal.
The statewide target of 75 lakh plantations was achieved within just 1.33 hours of the day. Responding to the Chief Minister’s appeal, people planted trees in the name of their mothers and pledged to nurture them as members of their family.
