SUBARNAPUR:
The Subarnapur Lok Mahotsav and Pallishree Mela–2026 was ceremoniously inaugurated on Wednesday evening, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and rural enterprise. The festivities commenced in the morning with a traditional torch (Mashal) procession that began from the shrine of Ista Devi Maa Sureswari, symbolising cultural pride and continuity.
The Mashal procession witnessed the presence of Subarnapur Collector Dr. Nruparaj Sahu, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Rajendra Majhi, Additional District Magistrate (General) Anjalina Pradhan, Chief Development Officer and Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Aswini Kumar Meher, Sonepur Sub-Collector Dr. Soumyarupa Rath, District Culture Officer Yamuna Pradhan, DPO-cum-DI & PRO Arjun Majhi, along with other district-level officers, artists, and culture enthusiasts from various blocks of the district.
This year, the district mahotsav is being organised around the theme “Mahima”, inspired by the life, philosophy, and teachings of the renowned poet-saint Bhima Bhoi. Reflecting the spirit of self-reliance and women empowerment, a total of 239 stalls have been set up, showcasing and selling products made by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Subarnapur district as well as other districts of the state.
Adding to the cultural grandeur, 59 cultural troupes from different regions will perform during the Mahima Subarnapur Lok Mahotsav, presenting a rich blend of folk art, music, dance, and traditional expressions.
