Better to Stop smoking and tobacco to protect heart- Dr. Siotia

Kolkata Feb. 13. Concern for Calcutta together with Calcutta Citizens’ Initiative organinized a seminar on ‘How to take care of your Heart’ on Saturday evening. Dr Anjan Siotia, Director Cardiology of BM Birla HEART Research Foundation shared guidance on how to prevent Cardiac arrest by observing few basic rules and habits. He firstly advised to stop smoking and use of gutka or tobacco.

Second rule is to manage Cholesterol level conducive to good health and to keep the mind stress -Free as stressful mind is a silent killer and contributes to the Cardiac problems. Further, Management of Diabetics, obesity and high sugar is also necessary. He advised hospitalisation of the patient without delay.

Dr SK Sharma, former Sheriff of Calcutta and founder of ECO X Ray and Imaging recounted that now heart related test facilities are available in Calcutta. Rajendra Khandelwal founder of Dhanwantary group of chemist shops spoke of the medicine facilities on heart.

KS Adhikari, President Concern for Calcutta welcomed all. Mr Narayan Jain, President of CCI and Advisor to Concern for Calcutta highlighted the relevance of learning the reasons for heart problem and its solutions.

Dr Siotia answered the questions put forward by participants. In answer to a question Dr Siotia replied that alcohol taken in moderation on regular basis indeed has a salutary effect on heart but overdose actually damages the lever.

Past presidents of the NGO Advocate RL Auddy, Deepak Jain and Pawan Paharia actively participated.
