Delhi Akali chief condemns AAP government’s high-handedness against Sikhs in Punjab
NEW Delhi (KCN):
Akali chief Paramjit Singh Sarna has strongly denounced the Punjab government of Aam Aadmi Party for witch-hunting practising Sikhs and initiated Sikhs, harassing them, searching them and targetting Akali supporters in the name of a police crackdown on Bhai Amritpal Singh and his supporters.
“This is a clear case of gross human rights violation and high-handedness towards the Sikhs,” Sarna said.
Such repressive measures by the government, he cautioned, will only lead to resentment among the Sikh community and will further fuel the communal divide and social unrest in Punjab.
“The Punjab government must immediately stop its oppressive tactics and respect the rights of the Sikh community. I urge the Punjab government to take into consideration the sentiments of the Sikh community and refrain from using coercive tactics to suppress their voices.”
Sarna condemned the Punjab government for targeting Akali supporters in their crackdown on Bhai Amritpal Singh and his supporters.
The government, he said, should not be allowed to infringe upon the constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms of the people.
“The Punjab government must take into consideration the feelings of the Sikhs and respect their rights and freedom,” Sarna remarked.
The Sikh community has always been an integral part of India and has contributed immensely to the country’s progress. “The Punjab government must respect this and not take any steps that can lead to social unrest and communal disharmony,” Sarna said.
