Rajdhani College & Miranda House in collaboration with NMM, IGNCA Organizes Workshop on Epigraphy and Manuscriptology
Save the past to save our future: Prof. Sachchidanand Joshi

Department of Sanskrit, Miranda House, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi and National Mission for Manuscripts, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, to preserve and promote the fundamentals of the Indian Knowledge Tradition. Under the joint aegis of the government, a seven-day national workshop is being organized in the mini auditorium of Miranda House. The inaugural session of the workshop, which will continue till 1st of July 2023, saw the presence of Prof. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA as the chief guest.
A grand exhibition of manuscripts was organized by the National Manuscript Mission at the venue which attracted the crowd. In the program, the patrons of the workshop- Prof. Vijayalakshmi Nanda, Principal, Miranda House College, Prof. Rajesh Giri, Principal, Rajdhani College and Dr. Anirvan Dash, Director, National Mission for Manuscripts, welcomed everyone including the chief and distinguished guests and vouched for a joint effort in preserving, nurturing and promoting the Indian knowledge tradition. Miranda House College will also sign an MoU in the coming days for establishing a center for Manuscripts and will be an ally in carrying out the objectives of the Government of India.
Prof. Sachchidanand Joshi in his keynote statement reflected on the relevance and importance of the workshop in preserving and nurturing the scriptures and history and said that we must save the past to save our future. He highlighted that this workshop is just a beginning in fulfilling the objectives of the National Mission for Manuscripts. Along with this, he threw light on the difference and importance of script and language. Dr. Anirvan Dash informed that about 260 participants from all over the country are participating in this workshop. The aim of this workshop is to enable the second generation, so that transcription and publication of manuscripts can be done. Special guest, Prof. Om Nath Bimli, Head of Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi, mentioned various types of manuscripts and inscriptions explaining the importance of the workshop. Dr. Saurabh ji, Deputy Proctor of Delhi University, who came as a distinguished guest, emphasized on different types of scripts and their usefulness. Dr. Awadhkishore Chowdhary, who came from the National Manuscript Mission, presented the worrisome condition of manuscripts through a self written song. In this session, renowned Sanskrit scholar Prof. Bhartendu Pandey, an eminent Sanskrit Scholar, Dr. Madhubala Singh, HOD, Sanskrit Department, Miranda House along with Political Science expert Prof. Sushil Kumar, Prof. Suman Kumar, Teachers, researchers and students from various academic backgrounds were present. The chief guest and the distinguished guests praised the Patrons of the program- Prof. Bijaylaxmi Nanda, Dr. Anirvan Dash and Prof. Rajesh Giri for this initiative. The workshop then begun with the national anthem.
