Ved Mitra Shukla gets Neeraj Smriti Samman for his Hindi sonnets collection

UP Bhasha Sansthan has announced awards named ‘Shri Gopaldas Neeraj Smriti Samman’ after a jury scrutinized applications submitted by several poets. Dr Ved Mitra Shukla has been selected for the first Gopaldas Neeraj Smriti Samman. Along with Dr Shukla, four names, Pankaj Prasoon, Dr Prabhanshu Kumar, Krishna Kumar ‘Kanak’ and Nisha Singh ‘Nawal’ are also in the list of the Sansthan. On the occasion of awards announcement, additional chief secretary department of Bhasha, Jitendra kumar said that these five awards were instituted by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2018 in the memory of eminent Hindi poet Gopal Das Neeraj to promote young poets of the state. Neeraj had also served the Shansthan twice as working president.
Dr. Ved Mitra wiil be honoured with Shri Gopaldas Neeraj Smriti Samman for his Hindi sonnet collection named ‘Ek Samandar Gehra Bhitar’. This award carries a citation and Rs. one lakh. After the announcement, poet Dr. Shukla said that the sonnet is a sub-genre of poetry enriched by cultural exchange. It can be considered as a wonderful example of tolerance and open-mindedness in the world literature. In the book ‘Ek Samandar Gehra Bhitar’, there is a collection of 126 Hindi sonnets composed in the tradition of the great Hindi poet Trilochan. In this, not only the language and style but the thematic varieties can also be read. Themes like nature, village, metropolis, country, society, literature, culture, love, politics, religion etc. are in the centre of the various sonnets. No doubt, human values, sensitivity, positivity and India centric approach prevails in the book. It is noteworthy that this book has been published with the courtesy of Help Foundation of Bahraich, UP.
Dr. Shukla is currently Associate Professor in the Department of English, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi. He, the author of more than a dozen books in Hindi and English, was also made a member of the Indian delegation at the 12th World Hindi Conference held in Fiji in February 2023.
