The ‘National River Ranching Programme-2023’ under Namami Gange continues by ICAR

Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore at Ram Ghat, Ballia, Uttar Pradesh on 1st July, 2023. In continuation of the national river ranching programme which was initiated from 5th of April 2023 from Nabadwip, West Bengal the pragramme was carried out at different stretch spanning across 3 different states. Till date more than 25 lakhs fish fingerlings were ranched during the period of April to June, 2023. During the event a total of 2.1 lakhs of advanced fingerlings (> 450g) of Indian Major Carps were released in the river by Shri Virendra Singh Mast, Hon’ble MP Ballia, Uttar Pradesh and Director CIFRI Dr. B. K. Das along with state fisheries and agriculture officials including local Block Development Officer Shri Sivankit Verma.
The event was also marked by gathering of 445 number of local fisherwomen and fishermen from nearby areas belonging to SC/ST community.A mass awareness was also conducted at Ram Ghat Kotwanarayanpur, among the gathered fishers.The cheif guest of the program Shri Virendra Singh Mast, Hon’ble MP Ballia and Director CIFRI was vocal about the sustainable fisheries of river Ganga and urged fishers to create a pollution free Ganga as desired by our Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.Further, fishing nets were also distributed among the local fisher folks by the chief guest. He also praised the efforts raised by CIFRI under Namami Gange Program and urged to continue the program in the future.
