National Institute of Technology Warangal Launches Innovative Four-Year BSc–B. Ed Dual Major Programme
Warangal (KCN):
National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW) is pleased to announce the introduction of a ground-breaking four-year undergraduate BSc–B. Ed Dual Degree programme, starting from the academic year 2023–2024. Aligned with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and following initiatives by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), NITW will offer the BSc-B.Ed (secondary level) programme with majors in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, providing students with an exceptional educational opportunity.
Implemented in 42 renowned institutions across India, including four National Institutes of Technologies (NITs) and two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) aims to revitalize the education sector and prepare aspiring teachers in a multidisciplinary environment to meet the demands of a global context.
Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi, Director of NITW, affirms that the four-year ITEP will be accessible to all students who choose teaching as a career path after completing secondary school. This programme offers an integrated curriculum that combines BSc. and B. Ed degrees, equipping future educators with a comprehensive skill set.
According to a news release, on Thursday, 13-07-2023, NITW’s ITEP programme provides students with the opportunity to complete their BSc-B.Ed degrees after successfully completing their Plus Two or XII grade. This distinctive offering allows students to save a year by completing their undergraduate degrees in two majors within a four-year timeframe.
Prof. Sarat Babu, Dean (Academic) at NITW, explains that students can select their major in the first semester itself, enabling them to complete their BSc degree within three years. The NEP’s exit policy allows students to obtain an undergraduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics after three years of study. Eligible candidates for the programme include students who have completed their Plus Two in Science. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the national-level entrance exam for the ITEP programme.
Prof. K. Madhavi, the Programme Coordinator for the programme, emphasizes that the four-year ITEP is a significant accomplishment in fulfilling one of the primary objectives of the NEP 2020. She states that the programme not only prepares teachers with a strong foundation in Indian values and traditions but also equips them with the skills necessary to meet the global educational standards of the 21st century.
NITW is proud to introduce this innovative programme and looks forward to nurturing a new generation of teachers who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education.
