Public Hearing Held for Expansion of Tata Steel’s Joda West Mine
Joda (KCN):
A public hearing for enhancement of production of Tata Steel’s Joda West Iron and Manganese mine, spread over 1437.719 hectare under Joda mining circle of Keonjhar district was held at Bichakundi under Joda Municipality on Thursday.
The manganese ore production increase of the mine is proposed from 1.8 lakh tonne per annum (2.118 lakh tonne ROM) to 8 lakh tonne (ROM) and iron ore production of 20 lakh tonne ( ROM) with overburden generation of 76.62 lakh tonne per annum and total excavation of 104.678 lakh tonne per annum.

District Urban Development Agency, Keonjhar presided the meeting along with Shri Prasant Kar, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board.
A total of 120 locals spoke on the occasion and 12 submitted demands in written. While appreciating the company for initiating developmental activities and sustainable livelihood projects for socio-economical development of locals in the region, they placed some demands before it.
These include employment for locals, medical and 24×7 ambulance facility, better road connectivity, potable water supply, street lights in remote and inaccessible areas and establishment of school etc.
Awnish Kumar, Chief, Manganese Group of Mines, Tata Steel assured their concerns would be addressed.
