Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by BK Panda
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and
commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and
achievements. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been
instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the
power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0,
fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav
commenced on 12th March 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of
independence and will end post a year on 15th August 2023. Narendra Modi says The Azadi Ka
Amrit Mahotsav means elixir of energy of independence; elixir of inspirations of the warriors of
freedom struggle; elixir of new ideas and pledges; and elixir of Aatmanirbharta. Therefore, this
Mahotsav is a festival of awakening of the nation; festival of fulfilling the dream of good
governance; and the festival of global peace and development.
As we approach August 15th, 2023, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav hopes to strengthen this peoples’
movement by emphasizing important cultural and social advancements. In light of this, new
themes have been found that are in line with the “Panch Pran” that the Honorable Prime Minister
of India has announced: women and children, tribal empowerment, water, cultural pride, lifestyle
for the environment (LiFE), health and wellness, inclusive development, Aatmanirbhar Bharat,
and unity.
Women and Children
The secret to securing a better future for any country is to invest in the development of its children.
Children’s morals, education, and health directly affect a nation’s social and economic indicators
as well as its status internationally. Therefore, it is crucial that kids have access to civic, social,
and moral education as well as health care services and exposure to the most recent advancements
in a variety of sectors (such as science, technology, culture, the arts, and education). India’s
childcare system has undergone substantial progress, but there is still much to be done in terms of
sanitation, health care, and education, particularly for children living in rural and tribal areas.
Similar to this, women—both inside and outside the family—are a crucial indicator of the
advancement and development of any country. The women’s movement has advanced significantly
in India, with noticeable improvements in a variety of areas, including girl child health and
education.
Inclusive Development
No matter one’s social or financial situation, inclusive development encourages equal opportunities
for everybody, with benefits flowing to all facets of society. Improved access to basic utilities like
housing, power, and water, as well as specific initiatives for the poor population, will go a long
way toward creating an India that is even more inclusive.
Health and Wellness
Hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing, telemedicine, medical tourism, health
insurance, and medical equipment are all part of the healthcare industry. The lens of illness
prevention and illness treatment is frequently used to decode the meaning of health. historical
approaches to health that are founded on our in-depth understanding of traditional practices from
long-ago medical traditions like naturopathy, yoga, and ayurveda. Homoeopathy, Unani, and
Siddha have all played significant roles in India’s story of health and wellness.
Tribal Empowerment
India’s tribal people have been instrumental in preserving the rich culture and legacy of our nation.
They have been recognized for their services to the independence movement through a number of
projects run by Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Consensus estimates from 2011 place the number of
tribal people in India at 104 million, or 8.6% of the total population. Whether it be their
involvement in the liberation movement, sports, or business, the tribal group has a crucial role in
the developing story of India.
Atmanirbhar Bharat
The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, or campaign for a self-sufficient India, is the future India that
the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi envisions. The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan
(self-reliant India campaign) was launched by the PM on May 12, 2020, and a special economic
and comprehensive package of INR 20 lakh crores, or 10% of India’s GDP, was announced to fight
the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Making the nation and its people autonomous and self-sufficient
is the goal. Aatmanirbhar Bharat is supported by five pillars: economy, infrastructure, system,
vibrant demography, and demand. He further described these pillars. Aatmanirbhar Bharat
Abhiyaan reforms and enablers in seven sectors were also announced by the finance minister. To
achieve the objectives of Aatmanirbhar, the government implemented reforms such as Supply
Chain Reforms for Agriculture, Rational Tax Systems, Simple & Clear Laws, Capable Human
Resource, and Strong Financial System.
Cultural Pride
India is a multi-cultural nation with one of the world’s oldest civilizations, stretching back more
than 4,000 years. This period has seen the fusion of numerous traditions and practices, which
reflect the rich cultural legacy of the nation. The country is unmatched in many ways, from its rich
cultural legacy to its status as the creator of some of the world’s most delectable foods. It is safe to
assume that the citizens of this nation are proud of their cultural heritage and actively carry on its
traditions. The idiom “Kos-Kos Par Badle Paani, Chaar Kos Par Baani” from the Hindi language
sums up the diversity of Indian languages. In a multiethnic country like India, a common tongue
serves as a unifier and an essential component of our culture.
Unity
India is a diverse country. The country contains a wide variety of cultures, customs, dialects, foods,
clothing, festivals, and more from north to south and east to west. The foundation of an
independent India has been laid by the vision of the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to
advance as a unified force. This is why the Prime Minister mentioned “Unity” as one of the five
principles for the 76th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2022. We will advance
as a more unified union with these shared objectives in mind as we strive for the coveted 100 years
of freedom.
Water
Water is a natural resource that supports life. Water resources are, however, scarce and unequally
distributed, leaving many at risk of running out. To raise awareness about water conservation and
revitalization, the Indian government, led by the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has
launched a number of innovative programs, including Har Khet Ko Pani, Nadi Utsav, and Amrit
Sarovar. India receives almost 4000 billion cubic meters of rain annually, according to a research
from the National Mission for Clean Ganga, but only 8% of that rainwater is actually captured,
placing it very low on the global scale. Hence the significance of collecting groundwater.
Increasing understanding of these issues will aid in water conservation. On April 24, 2022, the
Hon’ble Prime Minister officially began the mission on “Amrit Sarovar” as a part of Azadi Ka
Amrit Mahotsav with the goal of raising awareness about water conservation.
Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)
Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the goal of “LiFE (Lifestyle for the
Environment)” to involve people in reducing the negative consequences of climate change on the
occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference. This effort promotes a way of living that
emphasizes the thoughtful and careful use of resources and seeks to alter the prevalent “use and
dispose of” consumption patterns. The purpose is to persuade people to make small, climate-
change-related changes in their daily routines.
