Media Crusade: Indian Media Congress Rings with Calls for Government Action and Journalistic Recognition

Bhubaneswar,(KCN):Day 2 of the Indian Media Congress held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi became the epicenter for passionate appeals for government intervention.At the heart of this fervor was the ‘Democracy and Media’ conference, presided over by Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samantray, editor in chief odia Daily PARYABEKHYAK and English Daily THE KALINGA CHRONICLE with former BJP vice President Surajvan Singh Kataria as the guest of honour. Both emphasized the urgent need for central and state governments to address the challenges faced by dedicated journalists contributing tirelessly to society.Discussions underscored critical concerns for journalists, highlighting the imperative for safety at work, official recognition, and credentials. Delegates passionately advocated for enhanced working conditions, free health facilities, pension benefits, and bereavement support for families in case of untimely deaths.
Other notable figures and guests of honour including Delhi University Professor Meena Sharma, Manoj Singh Tomar (President, Bharatiya Namo Association), Vijay Shankar chaturvedi, President, Indian Accredited Journalists Association,and Ashok Pandey, National President, Bharatiya Shramajibi patrakar Sangha,new Delhi lent their voices to the cause, stressing the pressing need for government action.A momentous occasion unfolded as distinguished journalists, including Nirod Ranjan Patnaik (News 7), P.K. Chaurasia (Dainika Vaskar), Ajay Shulka (Lakshmi Sandesh), Geeta Burma (Khoj Khabar), and six others, were honoured for their outstanding contributions to journalism.The event witnessed a robust turnout with hundreds of media representatives, including key figures like Sanjay Das (President of the association), Rajnikant Samantray (Vice President), and Hrishikesh Mohanty (General Secretary), actively participating in the discussions.As the Indian Media Congress unfolds, the unified voice of these media advocates reverberates, urging authorities to acknowledge and strengthen the indispensable role journalists play in shaping and sustaining a vibrant democracy.
