Four visionaries in their respective fields, Internationally Acclaimed iconic Flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, Painter, Poet and art critic Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh, Actor, Director and Cultural Critic Rudraprasad Sengupta, and Kathak Dancer and Choreographer Kumudini Lakhia represented by her daughter received the Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 at a star-studded ceremony in New Delhi.
A distinguished jury chaired by Amb. Lalit Mansingh met in Delhi and unanimously selected the awardees for conferring the “Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award 2022”.
Announcing the names of the awardees, Founder Chairman of Legends of India said that this award is a humble recognition of the living legends for igniting young minds with the rich heritage of Indian Art..
Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award recognises accomplished artistes for their contribution to preserving and promoting traditional Indian art forms. The award comes with a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and a gold plaque. Founder Dipayan Mazumdar said that the organisation has been connecting the younger generations with classical music and other traditional art forms of the country since 1999 through regular performances and discourses in the country.
“All of us need to do much more for the sustenance of the traditional art forms and if they are not made a part of our basic education syllabi, they will soon become mere showpieces,” Mazumdar said while briefing the press at the ceremony.
“This is really a moment of pride because the ‘Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Awards’ have gained national renown and appreciation from the cultural community since these awards are an appreciation for artists whose contribution in the field of Theatre, Music & Fine arts is well recognized not only in India but all over the world”, said Joy Nandi, Director International Affairs, Legends of India.
