Strict Enforcement needed to stop use of Single Use Plastic Bags
Kolkata Nov. 20. Concern for Calcutta organised next part of its ongoing crusade against use of plastic carry bags for shopping at Lake Market. Programme was graced by Ms Manisha Bose Councillor of KMC Ward 87 as Chief Guest. KS Adhikari President enlightened about the activities of the organisation and welcomed the Councillor. She appreciated the efforts of Concern for Calcutta for its sustained campaign against Plastic carry bags for last 5 years. Narayan Jain, Chairman of Advisory Board of the NGO demanded proper enforcement of the law to ban use of Single Use Plastic by Central and State Governments. There is urgent need to ban the production of plastic carry bags of thickness upto 100 micron and also enforce ban on pouch of Pan Parag and Gutka as well as thermocol plates and glasses to save environment.
Many Members of the NGO Jagat Baid, KC Tewary, Bibhas Maiti, Prof. Pradyot Banerjee, Ramesh Sheth, AC Baid, Govind Singhania, Arundhati Mukherjee, JK Sharma, Indrani Netram, Praveen Jain Ramesh Mahajan actively participated to make the campaign successful.
KS Adhikari thanked all citizens of the area for their co-operation in making the programme great success and informed that more than 1000 cotton bags were distributed.
