Opposition vs BJP In Mumbai Over Shivaji Statue Collapse: 10 Points

Mumbai: The row over the collapse of the Shivaji statue in Mumbai shows no sign of abating despite an apology from the Prime Minister. Ahead of the state election, the apology has become a matter of controversy, with Uddhav Thackeray questioning it.Sunday turned a day of protest rallies across Mumbai. The financial capital not only saw protests against the BJP over the statue collapse, the BJP also held one against the Opposition, challenging their reverence for the 17th Century Maratha warrior king.

  1. The Opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi held a protest rally, where former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said Maharashtra’s soul has been insulted and the people will never forget those who insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji.
  2. He also questioned PM Modi’s apology. “Did you notice the arrogance in the (Prime Minister’s) apology? It smacked of arrogance,” Uddhav Thackeray said at the “jode maro” — meaning hit with footwear — protest .
