Justice for Journalism : Candle March Demands Protection and Support

Kaushambi (KCN): The Rashtriya Patrakar Mahasangh organized massive candle march in Muratganj, Kaushambi under the Sandipanghat police station demanding justice for slain journalist Raghavendra Bajpai who was brutally murdered in Sitapur. Journalists, businessmen and members of the public participated in large numbers expressing their anger and sorrow over the tragic incident.
The protest march commenced from the Idolganj office of the Rashtriya Patrakar Mahasangh and proceeded through the main areas of Muratganj. The demonstrators demanded financial assistance of ₹1 crore to be provided to Raghavendra Bajpai’s family and
a government job for a family member of the deceased journalist.
Education support for the journalist’s wife based on her qualifications.
Immediate implementation of the Journalist Security Act to ensure the safety of media professionals across the country.The march was led by State Convenor Ishtiaq Ahmed along with prominent members Mohammad Abid, Manoj Kesarwani, Kamlesh Sahu, Jitendra Singh, Anil Kumar, Nasim Ahmed, Iqrar Ahmed, Mithlesh Sahu, Ravikant Sahu, Dinesh Kumar, Tabzil Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, Saravan Patel, Ramkaran, Aman Vishwakarma, Samir Ahmed, Ali, Arun Tripathy and Arvind Kesarwani. They were joined by hundreds of journalists, businessmen and supporters from various sectors.
Addressing the gathering, Ishtiaq Ahmed strongly condemned the killing and emphasized that attacks on journalists are an attack on democracy. He stated that the government must take strict action against the culprits and enact laws to prevent such incidents in the future.The business community also expressed solidarity with the press fraternity highlighting that journalists play a crucial role in upholding truth and justice and their safety should be a top priority.The candle march concluded with slogans demanding justice for Raghavendra Bajpai and protection for journalists nationwide. The Rashtriya Patrakar Mahasangh warned that if their demands were not met they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.This protest underscores the growing concern over journalist safety and the urgent need for governmental intervention to uphold freedom of the press and democratic values.
