MP Ujjwal Raman Singh Highlights Severe Water Crisis in Lok Sabha

Prayagraj (KCN Bureau): The acute drinking water crisis in Koraon and Shankargarh took centre stage in the Lok Sabha today as Member of Parliament Ujjwal Raman Singh passionately raised concerns over the dire situation. Highlighting the fact that even after 75 years of independence the birthplace of the honest and hardworking former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri remains parched, Singh questioned the government’s inaction. The MP emphasized that during peak summers drinking water in Shankargarh is supplied only through tankers leaving residents in distress. He also raised concerns about the plight of animals who are left without a stable water source in the region. Similarly, in Barokhar, Koraon an area bordering Madhya Pradesh, water scarcity becomes severe during summer with tanker supply being the only means of survival. It is shocking that such a severe water crisis exists in areas where the Ganga and Yamuna rivers flow,” Singh remarked urging the Ministry of Jal Shakti to take immediate corrective measures.MP Representative Vinay Kushwaha added that most areas of Prayagraj’s parliamentary constituency, similar to Bundelkhand are rocky and hilly making groundwater availability a significant challenge. He further questioned where the allocated funds for water projects are being spent, as the people of the region continue to suffer.
In response to this alarming situation MP Singh demanded key infrastructural developments including extension of the Tudiyar Lift Canal to Barokhar,Construction of a lift canal in Majhgawan Nyaya Panchayat,
Development of a lift canal in Devghat,
Establishment of check dams and blotting follicles to aid water conservation. Singh stressed that without these crucial steps the residents of these areas would continue to struggle for something as basic as drinking water. The plea has now been placed before the Ministry of Jal Shakti and all eyes are on the government’s response to this pressing humanitarian crisis.
