Odisha’s Lok Bhavan has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the prestigious Platinum Green Campus Certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). With this recognition, Lok Bhavan has become the first Lok Bhavan in the country to receive the Platinum Green Campus distinction.
Lok Bhavan scored 88 out of 100 points under the IGBC Platinum Green Campus certification framework. The certification recognises its sustained initiatives in renewable energy, water conservation, biodiversity protection, scientific waste management and other areas of environmental sustainability.
Under the guidance of Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati, a series of measures have been implemented to transform Lok Bhavan into a green, sustainable and climate-responsive public institution. Sustainability has been integrated into campus planning, infrastructure and everyday operations.
The Lok Bhavan campus has adopted a range of environment-friendly measures, including energy-efficient systems, use of renewable energy, water conservation, biodiversity protection, scientific waste management, sustainable mobility and initiatives aimed at promoting the well-being of residents.
The IGBC Chairman presented the Platinum Green Campus certificate at a special function held at Lok Bhavan. The recognition is considered an important step towards strengthening sustainable governance infrastructure and climate-resilient public institutions in Odisha.
Expressing happiness over the achievement, Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati said that all universities in Odisha should aspire to become green campuses. He pointed out that thousands of students study in university campuses and that such green initiatives would inspire them to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
The Governor said the certification reflects Odisha’s commitment to responsible governance, efficient utilisation of resources and a greener future.
The achievement of Lok Bhavan is being viewed as an important milestone in Odisha’s efforts towards environmental protection, sustainable development and climate-responsive governance.
