Balasore, January 31 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): A mega free health check-up camp and awareness programme was organised by Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with Balasore Media Karmi, exclusively for journalists of the district. As many as 100 media persons participated in the comprehensive health check-up programme.
The camp was held at Balasore Atithya Bhavan and continued from 10 am to 3 pm. It was inaugurated by chief guests Dr Amulya Das, ADMO, Balasore, and Mrs Sabita Sahu, Chairperson of Balasore Municipality. Both the guests appreciated the initiative and termed it a timely and meaningful step towards promoting health awareness among media professionals.
During the programme, Manipal Hospital launched a special “Media Privilege Card” for participating journalists. Through this card, media persons will be able to avail special healthcare facilities and discounts at Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Senior members of the media fraternity welcomed this gesture and described it as a supportive move for the welfare of journalists.
As part of the health camp and awareness session, senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Kishore Kumar Panda spoke on knee joint pain, robotic knee surgery, hip surgery, and hip preservation techniques. Senior medical oncologist Dr Sachin Sekhar Biswal cautioned that excessive consumption of gutkha and other intoxicants significantly increases the risk of cancer. He said that lifestyle changes and regular health check-ups can help prevent and manage even serious diseases like cancer.
Neurologist Dr Amlan Tapan Mahapatra shared vital information on brain stroke and stressed the importance of the “golden hour,” stating that timely medical intervention can save lives and reduce neurological damage. As part of the health check-up camp, Dr Sadashiv Mishra, Senior Medical Officer, conducted general health examinations of the participating journalists.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Amulya Das said that media persons often neglect their own health while working under pressure to keep society informed and aware. He added that such health camps are extremely beneficial for them and should be organised regularly.
Mrs Sabita Sahu described journalists as messengers of public awareness and said the programme reflected collective responsibility towards their health and a strong commitment to preventive healthcare.
Members of Balasore Media Karmi said that such socially responsible initiatives and awareness programmes by Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, would go a long way in strengthening community health.
With active participation and cooperation of all concerned, the programme concluded successfully.
