Questions Raised Over Large Loan Sanctions, Recovery Mechanism and Alleged Customer Harassment; Demand for Vigilance or CBI Investigation
Balangir, Odisha: Serious allegations of financial irregularities, questionable loan disbursements and harassment of customers have surfaced against Odisha Grameen Bank (OGB), Balangir Region, prompting demands for an independent and impartial investigation into the bank’s financial transactions and administrative functioning over the past several years.
Several customers have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the bank, alleging prolonged delays in processing loan applications, repeated assurances without concrete action, and subsequent rejection of files on procedural grounds, including alleged delays in submitting documents.
Aggrieved customers have questioned why applications are kept pending for months before being rejected on technical grounds. They allege that the prolonged process has caused considerable financial hardship, mental stress and loss of valuable time.
More serious questions have also been raised regarding the sanction and disbursement of loans involving substantial amounts, reportedly ranging from ₹1.5 crore to ₹10 crore in individual cases. Customers are demanding transparency regarding the eligibility criteria, collateral security, supporting documents, loan assessment procedures and recovery status of such large advances.
Allegations have also emerged that certain borrowers may have received preferential treatment. Claims involving possible bribery, submission of questionable documents and procedural violations have been raised by aggrieved individuals. However, these allegations require verification through an independent investigation, examination of official records and appropriate legal proceedings.
Customers have further alleged instances of unprofessional conduct and misconduct by certain bank officials. There are also claims concerning the alleged consumption of alcohol by former branch managers inside bank premises. These allegations, if substantiated, would raise serious concerns about institutional discipline and accountability.
Against this backdrop, questions have been raised about the effectiveness of the bank’s internal monitoring, loan appraisal, financial controls and grievance-redressal mechanisms. References to regulatory penalties and notices allegedly issued by the Reserve Bank of India have also been cited by complainants, who are demanding clarification and public disclosure of the relevant regulatory actions.
Demand for Independent Investigation
Aggrieved customers and concerned citizens are now demanding:
An impartial audit and investigation of all major loan sanctions and disbursements made by the Balangir Region over the past several years.
Verification of loan applications, collateral documents, financial assessments and security records in large-value loan accounts.
A comprehensive review of loan recoveries, non-performing assets and possible financial losses.
An independent Vigilance inquiry into allegations of bribery, favouritism and administrative misconduct.
An investigation into the conduct and responsibilities of the concerned Regional Managers, Branch Managers and other officials, wherever evidence warrants.
An effective grievance-redressal mechanism to protect genuine customers from harassment and arbitrary decisions.
The complainants have urged the Reserve Bank of India, the concerned banking authorities and appropriate investigative agencies to take cognisance of the allegations. They have also indicated that they are preparing Right to Information (RTI) applications to obtain relevant information about loan sanctions, regulatory c…
